On Wednesday December 15, 2021, Victor Pierre, age 78 began his journey home to the Creator.
Victor was a beloved father, brother, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his daughters Sonja, twins Dee Dee, and Chanupa; son Victor Junior; brothers Vincent, Ronald, Hubert, and Melvin; sisters Vera, Carin, Mary, and Lorette; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents James, and Madeline Pierre; paternal grandpa Joseph (Ogima) Pierre and grandma Mary Nicolas; maternal grandmother Philomene Napeecash; sister Helen; brothers Gordon, Hector, Arthur, and Leslie.
Victor was a residential school survivor who took all the education he received to the level of being a part of the movement in the 1970’s to bring back the Ojibway traditions and culture in the formation of the Winnipeg Native Club along with others. Victor was a champion fancy feather dancer who travelled across Canada, USA and Europe demonstrating the love for his culture and heritage. Victor was integral in obtaining local control of education in his home reserve and was the first Education Director with a vision to getting an on-reserve school. Victor had a Red River College Language Arts degree in the 1980’s which he used to promote the revitalization of the written Anishinaabe language and translated the Spirit of the Seven Clans booklet. There are numerous accomplishments that Victor had over his lifetime but nothing gave him more happiness then knowing that he did the best that he could for the people that he loved, his family, his relatives and his community.
Traditional Wake service will begin on Friday December 17, 2021, at 5 pm with Elder Peter Atkinson officiating at the Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation Makoons Centre.
And on Saturday December 18, 2021, at 5 pm Wake and Traditional Service will begin with Elder Peter Atkinson officiating.
And Final Viewing to begin on Sunday December 19, 2021, at 12 pm till 2 pm.
