Terri Bouchie-Sumner passed away surrounded by family and love at the Health Sciences Centre on September 12, 2025, at the age of 49. Terri leaves behind her husband Jason Sumner, children Jarvis, Dezarae, Elijah and Courageous, and grandson Jace, and her fur babies, Lonesome, Richard Parker, Peanut, Jack and Adam.
Terri is survived by her mother Teresa Everett, sisters Mindy Everett and Aileen Everett (Jamie), and brothers Derrick Bouchie (Vanessa), Clarence Jr. Everett (Leslie), Louie Everett (Almira), and Kevin Bear (Leeanne), mother in-law Myrtle Sumner, sister in-law Amber Sumner (Kojak), bother in-law, Corey Sumner (Sandra) and father in-law Roger Dodge (Donna). Terri was always a cherished aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many who will carry her memory and miss her forever.
Terri is predeceased by her father Clarence Everett Sr. (Spoot), grandparents, Charlie and Juliet Bouchie, Great grandparents, Joe and Mary Bouchie, Uncle Alfred Everett, Mark Bouchie, Gilbert Sinclair, and Brother-in-Law, Grant Wilson, Cousin Matthew Bouchie and Steve Bouchie and nephew Brady Sumner. Great nephews: baby Bouchie and Baby Everett.
Terri grew up in Berens River First Nation, where she was known as a spirited, funny, kind caring women to many. She loved to laugh and would bring a smile to many faces and brightened many days. Terri cherished her family deeply, she loved her mom, aunties and uncles dearly and had a special relationship with her siblings. She was an adored aunt and cousin and is loved by all those close to her. She always welcomed family and friends into her home with warmth and kindness.
Terri enjoyed music, concerts, camping, BBQ’s and road trips, and recently celebrated her 11th wedding anniversary with her husband, Jason. Terri loved to celebrate her children and grandson, Terri loved to be involved with her families’ activities from, drum making, ski-dooing, sledding, birthdays and life’s accomplishments. Terri graduated from Southeast Collegiate and worked for many Indigenous organizations in Winnipeg where she worked with Elders and youth. Terri loved helping others.
Terri’s spirit will continue to be cherished. Her life will be remembered for the joy that she carried and the love that she gave. Terri’s story reminds us of the importance of holding close the people we love, never taking a moment for granted. Terri had the ability to make meaningful connections with others to make them feel special in her own way.
The family would like to thank all the medical staff that took care of Terri at the Selkirk General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre-MICU. We also send our thanks to the Chief and Council of Berens River First Nation for all their support and to all our family and friends for their kindness and compassion.
