Obituary of Reino Monkman
Reino Martin Monkman, beloved father, husband, and grandfather, passed away on February 27, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 9, 1957, in Winnipeg.
Reino was preceded in death by his mother, Lilian Albert Nee Monkman on February 17, 2003, and his first wife, Margie Patrick, who departed on August 19, 2002. He is survived by his devoted wife, Pearl, and his cherished children: Reino Jr., Daisy (Delmar), and Cara (Kevin).
Reino was a pillar of strength and love in his blended family, also leaving behind stepchildren Cliff, Becky, and Crystal (Jason). Reino and Pearl also helped in raising Pearl’s granddaughter, Dakota. Reino had a knack for bringing people together with his genuine charm and easygoing nature.
Reino held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren: Tatyanna, Lennox, Liliana, Zadie, Elijah, Julez, Carter, Tegan, Athena and Persephone; his step-grandchildren: Colton, Alexis, Ryan, Paige, Summer and Jason; a great-granddaughter, Kalila, and two step-great-grandchildren, Macy and Ethan.
Reino loved baseball and he found great delight in attending Goldeyes games. In his earlier years his favorite activity was taekwondo. He also loved going to the casino where he enjoyed trying his luck at Bingo and the VLTs. Reino found fulfillment first in working at Cara Operations for 26 years at Winnipeg International Airport. After that ended, he found new purpose in his role as a cab driver, relishing every moment behind the wheel. Driving that cab was more than just a way to make a living; it was a part of who he was. Reino also held dear his visits to Berens River to see his daughter, Daisy, finding peace and happiness in the tranquil surroundings. Reino touched the lives of many with his unique spirit and love. He had a special bond with his cousin Brian Delorande and his other cousin, Lynda Monkman. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. In his final year, Reino discovered a newfound sense of spirituality and connection with God, influenced by the gentle guidance of his devoted wife, Pearl, a steadfast believer. Eph 3:20 “Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.”
Friends and family are invited to honor Reino’s life in Winnipeg at a memorial service on March 11, 2024, at Eternal Grace Funerals at 1111 Logan Ave from 7:00pm to 11:00pm.
Cremation will follow the next day. Then Reino will be brought home to Berens River where there will be a Celebration of Life and dinner at the Berens River United Church on March 14, 2024, officiated by Rev. Roy Bouchie, to honour his life, eat, and share stories.
Reino will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved.
