Dad was born in Elma Mb to immigrant parents that fled the Ukraine. He loved his parents and missed them until his passing. He was their 6th child and had a very happy home life. Growing up near a river, he learned to swim and to skate. At 18 he left to defend the free world joining the army’s light infantry.
After basic training, he boarded a ship to England serving as a Staff Sergeant for 4 years until returning home with his 2 older brothers. During his time overseas, he made good friends that he kept in touch with and visited 40 years later. He met the love of his life at the train station platform in Elma where he worked as a train agent for his mentor Archie McKinnon. He fell head over heels for this tall blonde beauty, his Jennie (Jean, George). Together for 74 years, they shared a love for music, dance and time spent with family and friends of which grew larger after dad’s retiring from CNR a career of which he enjoyed. Her passing was very hard on him. She was the love of his life. They raised the 4 of us, we raised our 9 children and now wait for a 1st great grandchild. He loved nature and animals, especially his dog Leo who was his companion before meeting mom. He was a wonderful father, the kindest gentlest man you could meet, nic-named Saint Peter for his demeanor. Many thanks to all the hospital and nursing staff that attended to his needs for the last 2 years. Your dedication and skills kept him alive. Greatest thanks to his ever-devoted friends Anne and Ed; your friendship meant everything to him and to us. On dad’s behalf we ask all that are able to donate time or money to the hospitals and nursing homes that truly need our help. Thanks to Father Lukie and Father Winn for dad’s spiritual care and to Eternal Grace Funeral Chapel for their care. Rest in peace PK. We all love you.
