Melanie Sanderson Obituary

Melanie Joyce Sanderson

“Mel”

Born April 8th, 1978 – May 3rd, 2022

Melanie Joyce Sanderson was born in Thompson, Manitoba, to Mabel Campbell and Arnold Chartrand. She lived in Duck Bay, Manitoba most of her life. Mel attended high school in Dauphin for a short period and decided to go to school in Cranberry Portage. She graduated grade 12 from Winnipegosis in 1999 then went on to get her early childhood diploma at ACC in Dauphin, which she completed in 2001. Melanie also obtained her culinary arts certificate at the College of the North in 2007.

In March of 2006, a new and exciting chapter began in Melanie’s life when she met her soul mate, Douglas Sanderson. They welcomed their bundle of joy, Gracyn in December of 2007. It wasn’t long after that, Doug and Mel got married on July 31, 2009.  In April of 2010, they welcomed Gifford, their 2nd child together. A baby boy, who was their pride and joy. Mel valued her family as she spent every day with her husband and children. Her grandchildren became an important part of her life as well and would visit with them often.

Melanie has always had a special bond with her nephew, Brendan. Whenever he would call, she would be right by his side. Communicating with him and asking him how his day went was part of her daily life. She held Brendan very close to her heart.

Melanie has travelled all over Manitoba and Saskatchewan for dance shows and teaching children how to square dance with her daughter Gracyn. Mel has made a significant impact on the square dance community ever since she established her teams. Melanie had a very successful and popular dance team named after the late Gifford Sanderson. Mel made all the outfits for the kids on her team as she was a very talented seamstress. She made over 50 dance outfits for many other square dancers too. The bond Melanie had with all the kids and people in the dance community was unique, and we thank her for everything she has done. Mel was a proud Métis and did what she could to honor her heritage.

Melanie leaves to mourn her husband, Douglas Sanderson; and her children, Gracyn (Lance), Samantha (Brian), Jordan (Sol) and Jacob (Shylah); her mother Mabel Campbell; siblings Richard (Marley), Arnold, Benjamin (Kiko); uncle Adlerd Delorande; and auntie Marlene Campbell. She also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews, and grandkids.

Predeceased by her father Arnold Chartrand; son Gifford Sanderson; her grandparents Melanie Campbell and Louie Thompson, Henry Chartrand and Elizabeth Lafreniere; aunties and uncles Ben, Laura, Willie, Wallace, and Sharon; and her fur babies Hunter and Susie.
