Lorne Daniel Assiniboine

Lorne Daniel Assiniboine of Long Plain First Nation passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on November 10, 2024 following an unexpected sudden illness.  Dan was 50 years old. He was born July 7, 1974 at Calgary, Alberta to Del Assiniboine and Janet Longclaws.

Left to treasure his memory are his parents, his daughter Autumn Raine Assiniboine, his brother Shaun Michael Assiniboine, and nephew Shantih Victor Cameron Assiniboine.

Daniel is survived by his loving friend Coral Kwitecki, and extended family members:  Melanie Merrick, Helen Burston, Terri Moar, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Predeceased by his paternal grandparents: James and Rosemary (nee Woods) Assiniboine; maternal grandparents:  Eliza Longclaws and Clifford George Chaske; paternal great-grandparents: Dan and Flora (nee Soldier) Assiniboine, and George and Barbara (nee Myran) Woods; and, maternal great-grandparents Harry and Winona (nee Hall) Chaske of Sioux Village, and Jerry and Clara (nee Atkinson) Longclaws.

Dan grew up in CFB Calgary, CFB Lahr-West Germany, CFB Moose Jaw, CBF Petawawa, CFB Toronto, and Winnipeg. He was the eldest of two sons. 

Sports always played a huge role in his life, with many of this born story-teller's favourite stories involving his opportunity to suit up with six baseball teams, and lacrosse.  

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences Centre palliative care unit who looked after him so kindly in his final days.

A celebration of  Daniel’s Life will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge.  A Viewing Service will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the Eternal Grace Funeral Home in Winnipeg.  Cremation to follow.
