It is with profound sadness that the family of Lindsay William Ross announce his passing at the age of 33. Lindsay was a loving father to Josie and Josiah and a caring stepfather to Rhiannon and Amari, who were all the lights of his life. He is remembered by his father, his hero, Irvine Ross, siblings Daryle (Marsha), Cynthia (Dwayne), Wendy (Shane), Hughie (Debbie), Hailley, Willie, Sylvain, Rochelle and the loving mothers of his children Rochelle and Tiffany. In mourning are his aunts Nora (John), Violet, Joyce, Betty (Blake), Angie (Greg) and Florence (Al); uncles Lindsay (Brenda), Colin (Melanie), Oliver (Farrah) and many loving cousins and friends who all cherish his memory.
Lindsay was predeceased by his adoring mother, the love of his life, Lorraine Ross; Grandmothers Emma and Dorothy; Grandfathers William S. and William R.; Aunts Ethel, Jean and Stella; Uncles Gerald, Hughie, Geengee, Roddy, Joe and Edwin; Brother Belaham; Cousins Alex, Greg, Garon and Maxine; and Special Friends Sidney (Atootoo) Flett, Derek Berens, Chris Ross and Alex (Weejina) Goosehead.
Lindsay was grateful to be apart of the large and loving Semple and Ross family, he shared a close bond with all of his cousins. They could always count on their cousin Joe to lift their spirits on the hardest days and to share in laughter on the many adventures they experienced together. Lindsay enjoyed being on the land with his family, he learned to hunt under the patient guidance of his skilled uncles and cousins. They taught him their traditions, instilling the importance of respect and responsibility toward the land and animals, teachings that Lindsay valued greatly. His memory will continue to live on in the stories, laughter and closeness of the family he loved so dearly.
Lindsay was raised in Berens River First Nation, attended Berens River School until grade 9 and graduated high school from Southeast Collegiate in 2010. He carried immense pride for his community, served in countless volunteer roles and achieved one of his greatest accomplishments, being elected Councillor for Berens River from 2019-2023. A title he embraced with humility.
Formerly employed with Frontier School Division as an Educational Assistant, Lindsay thrived in supporting and encouraging his students. He advocated to always put youth first, taking every opportunity to support, mentor and uplift young people. Lindsay had a meaningful impact on them and his positive influence will continue to live on in their lives.
Lindsay had a lifelong love of sports, as a player, fan and coach. A loyal Vancouver Canucks fan, he proudly stood by his team through every season. A Berens River Bullet for life, nothing brought him more pride than representing his community through sports, his favorite event being the annual SERDC Tribal Days hockey tournament. Lindsay’s baseball and hockey teammates became his second family, and he shared many memorable rounds of golf with his wolf pack friends.
Lindsay’s love for his nieces and nephews, Michael (Kara), Shekinah (Josh), Nakota, Issac, Brady, Hughie Jr., Nicolas, Maleigha, Grayson, Misla, Tristan, Bella, Sidney, Sophie and Sylvie; great nieces and nephews Jeremiah, Aurielle, Darlin, Hartley, Harlin, Ezekiel, Ezariah and Ezmae, was something truly special. He was the uncle who showed up, teased with affection and spoke highly of their accomplishments. Along with his beloved children, Lindsay’s nieces and nephews are his lasting legacy. Uncle Joe will always be a part of their story.
His most valued time was spent coaching hockey behind the bench alongside his big brothers, sharing his knowledge of the game and encouraging players both on and off the ice. Lindsay and Hughie often shared how grateful they were to be Daryle’s baby brothers. As the eldest, Daryle provided them with steady, loving guidance, helping keep them grounded in the values and teachings of their parents.
Lindsay was the cherished baby of the Ross family, raised in a home and community where he was deeply loved. He will forever hold a special place within the hearts of his siblings who were also his best friends. Lindsay was their gifted storyteller, their baby brother who never had to do too much convincing to get his way with them because he truly was their pride and joy.
