Leonard Bernard Lea was born on January 1, 1957, in Gimli, Manitoba. He passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at St. Boniface General Hospital, surrounded by love.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Esther Ellen Lea and Henry Collins; his brother Harold; an infant brother; his brother-in-law Kevin Monkman; Dallow; and his mother- and father-in-law.
He leaves to mourn his beloved common-law partner and queen, Elaine Prince; his sons Cassidy (Alyssa) and Bryson; and his bonus sons BJ (Lisa) and Blaire (Chlista). Leonard was a proud grandfather to Cameron, Rhythm, Alizay, Temika, Serenity, Moonlight, and his cherished Queeny Mariah and Princess Delaine, whom he helped raise with love and devotion. He is also survived by his special friend Chris Cook (Nora).
Leonard will be deeply missed by his brothers Alfred, Walter, Glen (Nadine), Rodney, Willard, and Herbie; his sister Diane; as well as numerous uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives he touched.
Leonard began his working life as an underground miner at the Sherritt Gordon Mine in Leaf Rapids. He later moved to Winnipeg, where he worked building office furniture at Optimum Furniture. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Elaine. Together, they made their home in Berens River, where Leonard worked for the Frontier School Division as a Maintenance worker at Berens River School. Known for his dedication and reliability, Leonard served his community with pride until his retirement in 2022.
Leonard was known for his strong work ethic, his helping hands, and his generous heart. He was always busy creating and fixing things, working skillfully with his hands, much like his dad Buddas. Compassion came naturally to Leonard—he never hesitated to help others and always put the needs of those around him before his own. His kindness, humility, and quiet strength are the legacy he leaves behind.
Leonard will be remembered as a devoted partner, loving father and grandfather, loyal brother, supportive Uncle and Great-Uncle, and a true friend. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
