Peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with COPD my father passed away at the age of 79
Jaques was born July 19, 1946, in Val D’or Quebec. He was the born the 6th of 17 children
During his childhood he enjoyed chasing and capturing birds squirrels and keeping them as pets, also enjoying fishing and swimming with kids in the community. He stayed with his family in Val D’or until his early 20’s at which time he ventured into Northern Manitoba. It was here that Jacques began his work in the mines at Thompson, Lynn Lake and Snow Lake, along with various other projects where the work was abundant. Dad proved throughout his life that hardwork was the only work. He took pride in any job that he was doing.
Working his way south he stayed in The Pas, Manitoba for at time where he met Emma McGillivary together, they had one daughter Denise
Jaques remained in The Pas for a short time, finally making his way and settling in Winnipeg where he continued to work at various landscaping and construction jobs.
Jacques is survived by his daughter Denise. Granchildren, Craig, Denim (Darian), Chloe and Dante His Grandchildren were a great source of pride and love. Jaques also has 3 Great Grandchildren Carter, Emma-Leigh and Amirah Friesen. His is also survived by his brothers Raymond, Maurice, Roger, Noël, Gerald, Michel and sisters Jocelyne, Jacqueline, Diane, Denise, Suzanne, Nicole and Noëlle
Some of Jacques favourite pastimes included gardening, keeping his budgies, watching wrestling, old westerns and tv shows and thrifting
His favourite accessory was his TV.
In the summertime you would often see Jacques riding his bike through the south Broadway neighbour hood, he was either coming or going from jobs that he acquired through his small private business of landscaping and snow removal. I remember how excited he was when it snowed, because he knew there was work that day. Coincidentally it was snowing the night he passed
During his life Dad made many friends, he always carried a generous nature and was sure to help if he was able. He had one very good long time friend Margaret who remained supportive during his illness and through his passing
Dad was a humorous fellow and was always willing to share a joke or a prank. Many times, in his life he would open his door to assist friends in need, whether that was something to eat, a place to sleep or just a coffee, he will be remembered by many for this act of kindness.
Jacques was predeceased by his parents Donoza and Cecile Bernier, long time companion Gayle Heinrichs, brothers André, René’, & Reál
Grampa will be missed by all who knew him, he always made an impact on anyone who had been involved with him no matter who, why or where or when .
Services will be held on Thursday April 3,2025 at 1 p.m. at Eternal Grace Funerals, 1111 Logan Avenue. Cremation to Follow.
