In loving memory of Brandi Kimberly Cree Chief (Cree) August 10,1994 - January 22, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brandi Kimberly Cree Chief at 29 years old, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Brandi leaves behind her beloved children Calie and Adrian, her mother Tami, sisters Tiffani and Phoenix and Amanda, brother James, Uncle Ryan, Aunty Marissa, nieces Maliya, Kira, Talia, and Rylie; nephews Ethan, Kane, Knight, Axel and father Frank.
Brandi will be lovingly remembered by her aunty's Carrie, Danielle, Kathryn, Jennifer, Jackie (Dave), Tina, great-aunties Barb and Pat, uncles Tim, Donovan (Marilyn), Kelly, Pat, Flannigan, and many friends and cousins. She will be deeply missed by her closest friends Brittney, Alex, Shelley, Mychaella, and her partner Harley. Brandi was born on August 10, 1994, to Tami and Frank and welcomed by her “Big” sister Tiffani. She was predeceased by her Granny Christine Morgan, Grandparents Frank and Phyllis Chief, Aunt Nancy and cousin Corey.
As a baby, she was known for her beautiful dark hair, chubby cheeks and deep brown eyes. She was a member of Peguis First Nation, and lived her entire life in Winnipeg.
In her early years, Brandi was a feisty, and bright student who attended James Nisbet Community School, Elwick Community School, Cecil Rhodes and Tec Voc High School.
She excelled in team sports, with a particular passion for basketball and competitive soccer, where she stood out as an award winning all-star player for her community and school teams in the Maples.
Summer was Brandi's season. She thrived in the outdoors, relishing the freedom of barefoot days and being close to water. Her happiest moments were spent at community pools, going to the waterslides, playing in the park until dusk, enjoying sun-soaked beach days with her family, and eagerly awaiting the annual summer trips to Pioneer Camp on Lake of the Woods with her sister and best friend Tiffani.
Brandi had a very special bond with her baby sister, Phoenix. She was loving, proud, dedicated and protective as a big sister and mother, laying the foundation for Phoenix to now be the loving, proud, dedicated and protective auntie to her nieces and nephew.
In her last four years, Brandi faced an insurmountable battle with addiction, a struggle that left her loved ones heartbroken and ultimately robbed them of a future shared with her. Despite the darkness of this struggle, Brandi's love for her children and family remained.
She was fiercely protective of Calie and Adrian, and did her best to provide them with the simple joys and cherished connections she valued from her childhood.
Brandi's graduation from her adult education program in 2018, with her children by her side, was a proud moment for her and her family, a milestone she celebrated as she looked forward to the possibility of attending college. Her dedication to her family and her resilience through adversity are testimonies to the strength of her spirit that will carry on in her children.
With sincere gratitude to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) and Sunshine House Winnipeg, who provided invaluable support and care to Brandi during her struggle with addiction. Their tireless efforts in providing programming and services to those living with addiction in our community are deeply appreciated.

Hey, you guys, don’t feel guilty,
It was just my time to go.
I can see you’re all feeling sad,
I can see the tears still flow.
My life’s journey ended early,
The path I chose was short.
You all tried your best to change it,
But in the end it was for me to sort.
I know I caused you sadness,
I know caused you pain,
But I was captured by these demons,
They wouldn’t set me free again.
They took away my freedom,
They took away my choice,
And when they got their hooks in,
You could hear it in my voice.
There were times I tried to fight them,
There was a time I nearly won,
But they came back and overpowered me,
I had nowhere left to run.
I haven’t really left you guys,
I am closer than you know,
I will be the whisper in the wind,
I will be everywhere you go.
One day you will all forgive me
One day you will understand
And when your time on earth is done
I will be waiting to take your hand
