Bernice Virginia Bjarnason

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, chapan, sister and aunt.

Bernice was born on December 2, 1950 at Duck Bay, Manitoba. She received her education at Guy Hill Residential School. She raised her oldest children and her nieces in The Pas. She moved to Winnipeg in 1984 where she met the love of her life, who she married on November 14, 1992. Together they had two children, ten grandchildren and seven chapans.

She was well known for the love she felt for her family, her amazing personality and her caring, nurturing way. She cherished her children, grandchildren, chapans and her many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed the company of her friends and extended family. Playing bingo was a passion, especially supporting OCN bingo night which she looked forward to each week. She enjoyed singing a tune or two. She loved the visits she had with her siblings, reminiscing with so much laughter.

She passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2024, with her family by her side, at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 73 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 32 years, Sonny Bjarnason, her daughters, Yvette (Hank) Gibeault, Ramona (Andrew) {Rod} Tornquist, the Twins, Kimberly (Peter) Bjarnason, Shirley Cooke, Kim Bjarnason and Mia Jones (David Sumner), James (Kim) Bjarnason, Trevor (Tammy) Mason and Donny Bjarnason. Her auntie, Shirley (Paul) Parenteau, Doc (Shirley) McGillivary, Mike (Bev) McGillivary, Doug McGillivary, Gilbert (Cheryl) McGillivary, Brenda (Dwayne) Brightnose, Josephine (Cheryl) McGillivary, Marcella McGillivary. Her godchildren, Rodney McGillivary and Shontay McGillivary. Many more relations, too numerous to mention.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rod and Stella McGillivary, her in-laws, Reggie Mason and Nora Bjarnason. Her sons, Peter Harold Tornquist and Sonny James Bjarnason. Sonny McGillivary, Mervin McGillivary, John (Poochie) McGillivary, Clemmie McGillivary, Margaret McGillivary, Olive McGillivary, Ida Rose McGillivary, many more relatives too numerous to name.

Wake service will be held on Thursday September 12,2024 from 6 p.m.-11 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday September 13,2024 at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
