Alyssa McKay Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear and beautiful Alyssa Shekinah Anne McKay, on February 22, 2025 at the age of 35 years old.  Alyssa was born on June 1, 1989 at the Women’s Hospital in Winnipeg.

Alyssa will be lovingly remembered by her children, Avrie McKay, River and Rowen Slater and their father Jamie Slater, mother, Shelley Sumner (nee McKay), step-father Daryll Sumner, brothers Brandyn McKay and Raynon Raven, her grandfather Kenneth Murdoch, her father Glenn Keeper, brothers Dylan Travers, Hayden Travers, Brennon Keeper, Mitchell Bushie, Leighland Keeper, Glenn Jr. Keeper, Cree Keeper and  sister Jessie Keeper, [SS1] aunties, uncles, numerous cousins and friends.

Alyssa was a loving mother to her children Avrie, River and Rowen. She loved to take her children to the beach and spend time at the cabin having BBQ’s, bonfires and going for quad & boat rides. She had a gift of beading as her grandmother Doreen and her uncle Darryl had, making beautiful beaded keychains and earrings.

Alyssa’s children always sought to bring out the best their, “Mommy”. They cared for and loved her unconditionally. She was their favorite person and they will truly miss her. Her baby son Rowen, she called him, “Son-son”.  Alyssa loved to shop and made the best care packages for her children. Alyssa liked to make sure that memories of herself and her children were captured and took many photos and was proud to show their memories they made together. She loved to cook and had great ideas how to make great food dishes with the ingredients she had.

As a child, Alyssa had the biggest smile and laugh.  Alyssa’s middle name Shekinah means “Glory of God”, which her great-Auntie Ernestine gave to her.

Growing up, Alyssa loved to hang around with her cousins and friends, they called her, “Aly”. She graduated from Elmwood High School and kept in touch with many friends from school. She loved family get togethers and made everyone feel loved with her smile, laughter and hugs. Grandpa, Ken, was always there for her, she was his baby and she would call on him whenever she needed him. She loved her Grandpa so much.

Alyssa was loved by many and she touched many lives in her own special way.
